This hotel is in a great location for local amenities, restaurants, bars, shops and Waikiki beach is a couple of minutes walk away. Loads of things to see and do if you don't like the beach and local transport is easy to use. The staff are frienfly and welcoming, unfortunately they are let down by the hotel itself. This hotel is passed it's sell by date, it needs refurbishing and modernisation to be brought up to date with other Holiday Inn Resort's. I chose this hotel based upon my experience with other holiday Inn's and was extremely disappointed with the quality of the hotel.

I have been traveling to China, Singapore, South Africa, India, Philippines, several places in Europe and North America for the past 25 years and, this stay was my best hotel experience so far. Here is a little story for those of you who wish to read through.
Several months ago I booked a cruise to celebrate a 20th anniversary with my wife and, to avoid last minute issues with weather and flights I decided to extend our stay in Hawaii three days prior the cruise and one day at the end of it. At the time of the booking I did not have enough IHG Rewards Points to book 4 nights so I made a reservation to the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber only for last night of our trip and I booked the first three nights through a major Travel website together with my flight.
When we arrived in Waikiki we did not like the hotel I booked for the three nights. The second day, we accidentally walked in front of the Waikiki Beachcomber and I decided to check with one of the receptionists at the lobby if I had enough points to switch hotel for the remaining two nights. At that time I did not have my phone with me and could not remember my IHG Rewards number. The lady at the reception said she couldn't look up my account and helped me connect to an IHG operator via the courtesy telephone right there in the lobby. Speaking with the operator I was happy to find out that, at that time, I did earn enough points to book two full nights and a room was available. I made the reservation on the phone, then, I walked across the lobby to check in. During the check in process, either my wife or I must have mentioned about our 20th anniversary and then forgot about it. The following day we were pleasantly surprised when we found a box of chocolates and an anniversary card waiting for us in our room.
Coming back from the cruise we stayed the last day at the same Holiday Inn. The checkout time was at noon and our flight wasn't leaving until 10:50PM. We left the hotel at 11:30AM attempting to get an earlier flight but that did not go well. Also, we couldn't check in until 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure time. Can you imagine waiting over 10 hours at the Honolulu airport? Tension was rising and a possible "divorce" was on the horizon ;) so I called the Holiday Inn back asking if they could hold our luggage while we were going to lunch and they said that it was not a problem. We went back to the hotel, left our bags and went to lunch. Few hours later we returned to the lobby and asked if the offer for a courtesy room was still available. We did get a courtesy room for an hour to shower and freshen up for the trip. That shower was a blessing!
There are more to remember but I can think of only a couple of names right now: Ashley and Reiko who helped us at the front desk. I'm assuming that the courtesy room for a shower is a management initiative and I would like to say Thank You Very Much!
