The Head Concierge (I think, He had a suit and a North American Accent) Uninterested, unhelpful, poor attitude and zero customer service qualities.
I asked a simple question for directions in the
city whilst he was standing at the front door and he treated me as though I was a nuisance and not deserving of his time.
He should be sent to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel at Macquarie Park in Sydney for some training in customer service....He needs it!!! ( Macquarie Park is part of the IHG group, it is a low cost basic Hotel but it has excellent staff and service. I have stayed at this Hotel many times and therefore I am in a position to judge its quality which is 5 star.)
Whist staying at the Intercontinental in Melbourne I got more help with directions in Melbourne CBD from a pregnant woman pushing a baby in a pram 100 metres from the front door of the Intercontinental.
I want to note the young staff members wearing vests at the door were great and very helpful as were the desk staff compared with the individual noted above.
I live in Sydney and travelled all around the world and had a far better experience in a bed and breakfast in Penzance UK compared with this Concierge who should be one of the most important staff members of the Hotel.
What a shame, a first class hotel let down by a a person who in my view considered I was a nuisance to his day.
I travel to Melbourne often....I might try back packing next time....such a pity....all the other staff were fantastic. [Less]
