Think beyond the Canal—while that body of water may be what Panama City is known for, this diverse city offers so much more. Hike, bike, and walk your way in and around this destination to experience the multicultural appeal it holds. With a historical twist on nearly all it offers, beaches and restaurants come alive with an Old World feel. The perfect room awaits in a cozy IHG® Panama City, Panama hotel—start planning your vacation now.

Things to See

Alternatively known as Casco Antiguo, Casco Viejo fuses history and culture topped off with a sea breeze. Through narrow alleyways and extraordinary architecture, you’ll find a collection of restaurants, cafes, pubs, and stores representing Panama. While historical buildings are equally beautiful in places like Cartagena, Panama City uniquely combines colonial and neoclassical architecture for unforgettable charm. A working showcase of the marvel of engineering, the Panama Canal (and its museum at Miraflores Locks) is a must-see for history buffs and those who understand its role in trade and global economy. To get active and enjoy lovely views, check out the Amador Causeway. With warm yet moist weather, seeing Panama City’s hot spots requires nothing more than an umbrella in case it happens to rain.

Hotels in Panama City

Say “buenas” to a variety of hotel locations to choose from in Panama City. From properties located right on the Panama Canal to those facing Old Panama and the stunning skyline near the Financial District, you’re sure to find the perfect hotel to suit your needs. For those seeking convenience and comfort, there are also locations mere minutes from the International Airport of Tocumen.

Where to Stay

This modernized city offers several districts that provide comfortable stays in IHG hotels, from budget to luxury. Hotel locations range from airport locations, overlooking the Panama Bay, or in the heart of downtown. Whatever your reason for visiting Panama City, you’re sure to find the ideal place to rest and recharge during your stay.

How to Get to Panama City

Most people fly into the International Airport of Tocumen to get to Panama City. In spots flooded with tourists, you’re likely to find many English speakers, but most people in Panama City speak Spanish. Once you’re in the city, you may find yourself taking a bus or cab to get to your destination. Sharing a cab is recommended, as tourists can be charged a higher price, which is often set at the beginning of a ride. Public transportation is not advised in Panama City, so opt for a car service instead. If you do decide to take public transportation, the Metro subway system built in 2014 is a safe, economical way of seeing the city in the daytime.
