I stayed here several times during the last few years and I am just coming back from a one week stay.
Excellent location in Bugis, connected to the commercial center with all type of shops, a
supermarket, bakeries, the MRT (subway) stop and a number of other facilities. The « night market » is also very close.
The building is and old one to which has been added a more modern construction, most of the rooms being in the new part.
I am not particularly fan of the « heritage » rooms in the old part, as they are overlooking the inside of the main alleys of the commercial center. Otherwise these rooms are large a nicely furnished.
All the rooms were I stayed were rather large - sometimes of very large size - and in general well equipped. The one I was allocated this time was nevertheless without an expresso machine that can sometimes be found and I missed it.
Sound insulation is very good regarding outside noise.
Unfortunately, the heavy room doors are making a loud noise when closing. This can be disturbing and even the slamming door of the room under the one I was occupying could be heard. More and more hotels have a better system to avoid such noise (I am thinking of the Intercontinental in Osaka for instance) and it is a pity that it is not implemented by IHG members.
The restaurant has been renovated with a new name and new style and this is where the excellent breakfast can be taken with a wide range of choice. I have the feeling that the service was slightly better here in the past, with a more careful attention to dirty dishes and cups... but it may be just nostalgia from my previous stays.
Background music in the restaurant is a nuisance : often too loud and of the lowest quality. You are at the Intercontinental hotel but you have a musical environment of a supermarket... Really unpleasant.
Otherwise, excellent service, helpful staff (and they really proved it several times when needed during my stay), to be recommended. [Less]
