I stayed here for one night on March 25, 2015. I booked a standard room, but was upgraded to one of the suites at checkin as I am a Platinum IHG Rewards Club member. I chose this hotel in part[More]
because it offers a shuttle to/from the airport and to/from the Air Canada Headquarters. Booking was made through the hotel reservations department via e-mail to ensure that I received the corporate rate.
On arrival at Montreal Airport I took the airport shuttle to the hotel. Note, in most airports, the shuttle picks up on the 'arrivals' level but this hotel has its shuttle pickup on the 'departures' level. That did cause me a few moments confusion; trying to find the shuttle.
On arrival at the hotel a friendly checkin agent assigned me to my room, and told me I would receive 500 bonus points as a Platinum amenity #I actually cannot, however, find any record in my account that they actually credited me these points?#. I had a wonderful suite on the main level that overlooked the common area. I love the sound of flowing water that you can hear from your room. There are lots of amenities in the middle of the hotel; a pool, table tennis table, etc. Since I was traveling by myself, I did not take advantage of any of these activities.
The suite was spacious and a decent size. The televisions were on the small side, however. The suite had a nice living and dining room area, then a walkway to the washroom, and finally a separate bedroom. It featured hardwood floors throughout most of the suite; a nice touch.
I did have a hard time figuring out all the light switches as most of the lights were individually controlled instead of setup together, so you had to turn on multiple lights in each room instead of just flicking a switch and all the lights in the room would turn on.
The washroom showerhead and handle needed repair and I left Maintenance a note when I left so that they could have it fixed for the next guest #I guess Housekeeping never noticed it when they cleaned it prior to my stay#.
The bed was comfortable and all in all it was a solid IHG suite.
I had dinner at the onsite restaurant and ordered a pizza. For the price I paid, I was extremely disappointed with both the quality and portion of the pizza. For about $14.00 plus taxes, it was basically a pizza you would find at the grocery store in the frozen food section warmed up in the oven.
I did order a cheesecake for dessert to help fill my stomach. The service was okay; I was shuffled back and forth between different servers throughout the meal. It was more like a teamwork endeavour.
The next morning I grabbed a Globe and Mail newspaper from the front desk area as newspapers are not delivered to your room. I was taking the shuttle to the Air Canada Headquarters #arranged the night before with the front desk# and so I proceeded to wait for the shuttle outside in view of the front desk.
I waited and waited and waited for the shuttle; nothing was coming and no one was advising me of any issue. It was supposed to be at like 06:45 #cannot remember the exact time#.
When a shuttle came at 06:55ish, the driver said he was going to the airport. The next shuttle arrived 5min later, around 07:00ish, and also said he was going to the airport. I asked the Front Desk what was going on. It seemed the first shuttle did not know anyone was going to the Air Canada Headquarters even though I booked it with the front desk the night prior and so just took the people who wanted to go to the airport #the shuttles pickup at the Crowne Plaza Hotel next door first; they are shared between the two hotels#. The second shuttle was supposed to go to the airport, but finally the driver offered to take me to the headquarters at the same time the front desk agent was going to just call me a cab. Obviously it all worked out but it sounded like they made the whole shuttle plan too complicated and then proceeded to blame eachother when the plan fell through. It should not be so hard to have a schedule for the shuttle to go to the airport and another one to the Air Canada Headquarters and make sure each driver knows his/her own route.
Anyways, all in this is a solid hotel. I would definitely return given the overall value and room upgrade. I would be very hesitant to order from the restaurant again, however.
One thing to always keep in the back of your mind, if you are not bilingual like me, is to say 'Hello' at the start of any interaction with an employee so that they know what your language preference is. [Less]
Our family had a great experience during our stay at the Intercontinental Montreal . The hotel was lovely, rooms were great but it was the staff that made the difference . They where more than[More]
helpful and accommodating but it the little things that make the difference . Upon returning from a day of downtown shopping I asked the Bellman about the best way to get to the Casino as it was my Daughters 18th birthday and as she was now "legal" she wanted to see what all the hype was about.
He was very helpful with his direction/ recommendations but it was what happed later that showed me the staff listens and cares about its quests . Forty five minutes later room service shows up with a small cake with Happy 18th Birthday emblazoned on it for my daughter. The gesture was greatly appreciated. Even if this hotel was not five star I would still recommend it because of the staff. [Less]
