Munich, capital of the beautiful southern German province of Bavaria, is a fascinating mix of the modern and the traditional. With a history stretching back to the eighth century, today you find traditional culture and contemporary living hand in hand, while modern and medieval architecture stand side by side. Munich is only 30 miles from the Alps, and though it was heavily damaged during World War II, its historic Old Town has undergone extensive renovations and contains many architectural points of interest and memorable Germany hotels.

Munich is renowned for its beer halls. Most brew their own beer, and the visiting connoisseur has nearly unlimited choices. Visit the Wesses Brauhaus, which has been around since the 19th-century, and sample beers whose descriptions range from refreshing like a dance in a summer breeze to relaxing moments by the fire. Or try the

The English Garden is Munich's biggest park and one of its prime tourist attractions. It's bigger than New York's Central Park, and offers paddle boats for the water, woodland paths, and even beer gardens.

The German Museum
is unique, in that it's located on an island in the Isar River. It's a museum of science and technology, and boasts intriguing historical artifacts, like the world's first electric dynamo and the first car. Munich is also home to one of the oldest art galleries in the world, the Alte Pinakothek, which houses over 800 masterpieces from the Middle Ages.

Good location for Oktoberfest
By ValerieB523
Staff at check in was friendly and efficient. There was an ice machine which was nice and a decent variety for breakfast. The staff in the breakfast area was very attentive to the tables and the [More] buffet area. The front desk staff was able to give us easy directions with the construction to the nearest train station to get into the city. Everything was clean. My only complaint is the mattress is STIFF and the pillows are almost non-existent. My pillow had a funny smell (almost wonder if the pillow case wasn't changed). If you have a family, the room is quite cramped. On the day of checkout, two housekeepers repeatedly came knocking on our door 2-3 hrs prior to checkout. [Less]
Pleasant stay at Holiday Inn Express an der Messe
By Ema@Munich
It's the second time I am staying at this hotel and I am happy to see that previous good points have been kept and progress has been made. The most noticeable downside 2 years ago was that there were [More] smoking rooms and there was an overall odor of cigarettes when you entered the room. Not any more! The room was now fresh which made it much more enjoyable to stay inside. The bed was comfortable with a choice between soft or hard pillows. I find this very considerate of the hotel to offer such choice. Clean room, good sound insulation, got excellent sleep to start a next business day fresh. Hotel breakfast is still good, but I miss the scrambled eggs (instead you can have hard boiled eggs). Plenty of options for sweets: jams, Nutella, honey, cake. Every few days a small change in the breakfast selection would be nice (like offering scrambled eggs instead of boiled eggs or a different cake). One downside is that the hotel is positioned at a 25 minutes walking distance from the S-Bahn station (Feldkirchen), but there is also a bus you can take. If you travel by car or taxi, everything is fine. Overall, a very comfortable and nice stay here at a good price, would definitely return! [Less]
Excellent Staff and Service

I would like to gratulate the staff. All of them were very friendly and ready to help. My only complaint was the cleanliness in the badroom. The Ventilation was not working and it was moldy. [Less]

Fantastic with a car
Great value for money if you're touring Germany with a car. There is a free parking lot a few blocks away and an easy connection to a train station four blocks away as well. We left our car for a [More] few days and used the city transportation system.Only 12 Euros for a family pass which they sell at the Hotel front desk. This hotel is great for families with some well-priced suite options. Highly recommend [Less]
