Munich, capital of the beautiful southern German province of Bavaria, is a fascinating mix of the modern and the traditional. With a history stretching back to the eighth century, today you find traditional culture and contemporary living hand in hand, while modern and medieval architecture stand side by side. Munich is only 30 miles from the Alps, and though it was heavily damaged during World War II, its historic Old Town has undergone extensive renovations and contains many architectural points of interest and memorable Germany hotels.

Munich is renowned for its beer halls. Most brew their own beer, and the visiting connoisseur has nearly unlimited choices. Visit the Wesses Brauhaus, which has been around since the 19th-century, and sample beers whose descriptions range from refreshing like a dance in a summer breeze to relaxing moments by the fire. Or try the

The English Garden is Munich's biggest park and one of its prime tourist attractions. It's bigger than New York's Central Park, and offers paddle boats for the water, woodland paths, and even beer gardens.

The German Museum
is unique, in that it's located on an island in the Isar River. Munich is also home to one of the oldest art galleries in the world, the Alte Pinakothek, which houses over 800 masterpieces from the Middle Ages.

Very nice room; good location
By cr70
This was my third stay at Holiday Inn Munich South. Each time has been a pleasure...great location and a good value for the price. The rooms are quite nice, and the breakfast buffet is hassle-free [More] and of ample variety. The only negative comment pertains to the underground parking garage. The aluminum parking spots are very awkward and too tight for most average-sized vehicles. I would nevertheless stay here again. [Less]

Excellent Service
By Mike in Abita
Upon arrival we were greeted by Nati. I found out later that she worked in the restaurant and was not a guest counter person. She went above and beyond on making our stay a memorable one. She guided [More] us to the U (rail system), and explained all the best options we were looking for. She even gave us her personal phone number incase we were lost and needed directions. Her dedication to customer service was commendable. I will definitely stay at this location again, if I return to the area, because of her attitude and helpfulness. [Less]
Just what we needed after 2 weeks of travel
By RiverHouseBev
My spouse and I had been traveling via river cruise and train for the past 14 days. I booked this Holiday Inn because I knew at the end of the trip we would be tired and would want to be more [More] relaxed than we had been the previous few days of train travel. This place was clean and comfortable. I wish there had been an accessible ice machine since we Americans like our beverages cold, but the people at the bar were happy to give us a container of ice when requested. Also, this place is close to small neighborhood restaurants and within easy walking distance to the main square, Marienplatz. We did not bother to take the subway to this main tourist area since it is only two short stops away. In fact, Holiday Inn should advertise how easy it is to access this hotel...either from the airport or the train station. When we arrived the main train station, we took the underground train to Rosenheimerplatz; got off and followed the Holiday Inn signs (still underground) til we got to the place. Very easy and well lit. I highly recommend this place for its convenience. [Less]

Overall experience
By Patty
I was a little confused at checkin regarding the price of the breakfast. I heard "$5.50" but the bill reflected $12.50 each. However, the breakfast was excellent and was well worth the price. [More] Emptied the fridge in the room to store my food items (I am a celiac) It was not clear to me that would be recorded as consuming the items. The desk was very understanding but I need an empty fridge for my stay. [Less]
