Tiny Room

By

April 16, 2019

I arrived about noon on a Monday and was warmly welcomed and checked in to Room #809 by Rosendo. I chose this location after staying elsewhere the prior 3 nigths since the price was much better. I only spent minimal time in the room: an afternoon nap before my Monday evening basketball game-Go Irish!-and then for a night's sleep. The room was tiny and was mostly bed. There was an entrance corridor, but that is mostly wasted space. The bathroom was good and had a tub so I enjoyed a relaxing bath and soaked my feet. There was a safe, but it was just slightly big enough for my laptop, which I almost couldn't get out the next morning, but finally did! I slept well. My view was not that great since I was only on the 8th floor, and it's Chicago, the city with the most tall buildings in the USA. I showered before breakfast, which was very good and an example of the new Holiday Inn Express presentation that includes egg white omelets, turkey sausage, plus much more. I was the first one there at 6:30 when it opened, but it probably could get crowded if the hotel was busy. I returned to my room and made my final preparatiions and went down to check out. All was ok on my bill that was placed under the door. I made the short walk around the corner to the bus stop and then a mile or so bus ride to the subway and on to Ohare. In summary, I enjoyed the historical aspect of this 100+ year old building. I would stay here again, if traveling alone. It's a block from St. James, 2 blocks west of Michigan Ave., and near many good restaurants and good transportation. I doubt I would stay here if with someone due to the very tiny room...even by European standards where this is the norm!
