With the exception of the room choice, this place was great.
This HIX is a very nice property. It’s situated in an excellent location with shops, spas, bars/restaurants, and a movie theatre within a 5-minute walk. The property itself seems to be very new and
the only sign of wear and tear was a coffee stain in the hall outside my room other than that the place was immaculate. Rooms are average size for a HIX and have basic amenities.
Lobby waiting area/lounge is quite spacious with a very nice workbench with many charging points. I never saw it used but can seat a lot of people.
Breakfast room was clean and has an average selection of food for the masses.
The staff was very courteous and friendly.
As mentioned before location was great.
Fitness room was open 24 hours a day. This was a great thing as some other HIXs have very restrictive hours.
Property looks fresh and new.
The not so good:
Sleep quality for my room sucked, more later.
The take away coffee cups are not designed for hot drinks and become soggy quite quickly, double up for safety.
The level and room placement of the fitness room encourages the cook-staff up smoking from the rooftop next door to be voyeurs. Even with blinds drawn a gap allows viewing people on the far treadmill through the mirrored wall. Caught someone staring once so modest people beware.
The room ordeal:
I was in 822; avoid at all costs. I’ll start off by saying that my room was nice, bed comfortable, bathroom designed well, there could have been a couple more outlets for charging but once lamps unplugged it’s ok. I would recommend changing the fixtures to the ones that have a couple of USB ports built in. A few extra coffees in the container wouldn’t go amiss. Kind of even it out with the 10 of creamer, sugar, and tea.
Also there is a screw protruding from the carpet that I caught my foot on a couple of times. Someone should remove that. It’s to the right of the TV under the counter, feel around you’ll find it.
The main problem I had with the room is that it’s literally adjacent to a rooftop night club. I didn’t notice the first night as we were back after it had closed but made itself very well known on the second. Techno and house music was blaring from 10 – 2ish, they played some good tracks but I didn’t appreciate it as I was trying to go to sleep for early morning meetings. It was so loud that if a heavy bass song played you could feel the vibrations in the mattress.
On Friday night I went to complain to the night manager and see about changing rooms but there was nobody on duty and the hotel was left under the care of the very young local guy at reception. He was apologetic and told me that it ends soon. I decided that I’d tough it out for that evening and the following one. I asked for the manager to contact me when he came in that morning but didn’t hear from anyone. The following night when I went down to smoke as I couldn’t sleep then either the same guy was on duty and told me my message was delivered.
I’m really baffled by IHG giving us that room. I don’t think the hotel was at capacity and we’re loyal high standing priority club members. The room has to be labelled as a substandard room so just amazed that we drew the short straw.
So in closing I would recommend to avoid a similar ordeal pass on 722/822/922, or just get a South or East facing room, North has a busy side road.
Soundproof widows or noise dampening curtains need to be fitted in that room ASAP. [Less]
