Old Opera House

Opernplatz 1, 60313 Frankfurt

Also known as Alte Oper, Frankfurt's Old Opera House is one of the most notable buildings in the city. This building is located in the Opernplatz and features an Italian High Renaissance style. It was largely destroyed during the aerial attacks of World War II. In the spirit of Frankfurt's resilience, however, the Old Opera House was rebuilt over the years and finally reopened in 1981. It now acts as a concert venue for a wide range of genres, including jazz and classical music.

Commerzbank Tower

Kaiserplatz, 60311

At 56 stories and 985 feet high, Commerzbank Tower is the tallest building in Germany. It has a unique framework structure that allows each of the nine sky gardens in the tower to be suspended over the upper levels of the building without support below. The vegetation in each garden acts as both an aesthetic feature and a component of the natural ventilation system. The building was designed to be environmentally friendly and is supplied entirely by “green” energy. Visitors can enter the foyer to view the beautiful atrium gardens.

Trianon Tower

Trianon, 60325

Another stunning skyscraper in this German city is Trianon Tower. This 45-story, 610-foot building is located in the financial district just a few blocks away from Commerzbank Tower. It features a triangular structure and a sleek, shiny exterior that gives it an ultra-modern look. Home to a number of businesses, the building has become an iconic part of the Frankfurt skyline.

St. Bartholomew's Cathedral

Domplatz 1, 60311

Also known as Kaiserdom (Imperial Cathedral), this stunning church is situated in the historic Old Town of Frankfurt. The rich history of St. Bartholomew's Cathedral makes it one of the most popular attractions for visitors. Previous churches were located at the same site stretching all the way back to the 13th century. From 1356 to 1792, Holy Roman Emperors were elected and coronated there.

St. Bartholomew's Cathedral is home to an important skull relic of the apostle Bartholomew, and tombs have been found below it during recent excavations. The current church, which was completed in 1550, was rebuilt after damage occurred during the World War II bombings of 1944. Don't miss the Cathedral Museum located in the medieval cloister of the cathedral where you can learn more about the church's history and view exhibits from previous excavations.

Germany's most famous writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, is celebrated at the Goethe House and Museum in Frankfurt's Innenstadt district. Next door is the Goethe Museum, where Late Baroque and Romantic artwork from the period are on display.

Take a guided tour of each property before heading around the corner to see the famous Goethe Monument in the Goetheplatz. These attractions, along with the Alte Oper and Commerzbank Tower, are located a short distance from the Holiday Inn Express Frankfurt City – Hauptbahnhof.
