Buckler's Hard, a 30-minute drive from the hotel, surrounded by the New Forest National Park, is an 18th-century village with a fascinating shipbuilding history. The Maritime Museum gives an insight on the vessels constructed in the village, including those for Admiral Nelson’s fleet. There’s also a replica of a wood-framed shipwrights' workshop, built from hand-chopped timber.

With miles of trails and water cutting through the New Forest National Park, you can rent a bike, a canoe or a horse to explore the protected woodlands, just 15 minutes' drive away. With horses, no matter your level of experience, the riding stable can provide you with a kindred animal for an exhilarating or a relaxing experience. You might even catch sight of wildlife such as roe or red deer.

If you have time, don't miss the Isle of Wight, just an hour away on the Isle of Wight Car Ferry from the nearby ferry terminal. The island is a year-round holiday destination with miles of varied coastline, well known for its dinosaur and prehistoric heritage. Compton Bay is a hotspot for fossil hunters, while Shanklin and Sandown are known for their esplanades and sandy beaches.
Tips

Tips

If you're planning a cruise, the hotel is an ideal spot to stay prior to departure from the nearby cruise terminals. Brittany and LD Lines Ferries leave from Portsmouth Ferry Terminal, 50 minutes’ drive away, to France, Spain and the Channel Islands. Book well in advance if your trip coincides with the annual Cowes Week sailing regatta, which usually takes place over the first week in August.
