I have many good things to say about the Presidente Puebla: the hotel staff, from the front desk to the restaurants to housekeeping to the concierge to the Intercontinental Club, is superb. The
entire hotel industry could benefit from observing and learning from these employees. They are easygoing and friendly, yet respectful, kind, and knowledgeable. The food in the restaurants is delicious and reasonably priced, and offers a good variety. I love that the hotel heats the pool to just the perfect temperature and that the pool area is well maintained. The rooms are nice - some are quite beautiful while others are rather ordinary, but the beds are heavenly, so comfortable, in fact, that I easy could have spent a totally hedonistic weekend simply in bed. That would have been a shame since then I would have missed the extraordinary historic center of Puebla. The hotel lobby is sumptuous, more art gallery than lobby, and draws you in to spend time there to linger, enjoy the art, and just relax.
Unfortunately there were a few things that blemished the whole experience. First off, I arrived very late (after midnight). The young man working the front desk was nice, but not very helpful nor knowledgeable. After getting pat and incorrect answers to my questions, I gave up. I figured it was better to wait until morning to ask any more questions. Secondly, I was upgraded to a club level room, which I appreciate, but as a platinum Ambassador, I would have thought that a nicer room would have been made available to me. Mine was okay, but it overlooked an empty lot and a street, so opening the doors to the juliet balcony was not something pleasant. I don’t know for certain, but there seemed to be much nicer rooms that went empty during my stay. Finally, the hotel’s WIFI is barely usable. If all you’re doing is reading emails, you’ll be okay, but if there is ANYTHING else you want to do, you can forget about it. I got so frustrated with the WIFI I finally gave up and used my data, which adds a significant cost to my stay. The unacceptable WIFI is why I have a hard time recommending this property. After all, it’s 2018 and WIFI is essential to many of us. [Less]
