Featured Monterrey Hotels

At the cusp of Mexico’s efforts to grow and develop into a prosperous nation and represents the third largest city in Mexico, Monterrey is recognized as an industrial and economic powerhouse. Throughout the city, you’ll find buildings that blend traditional and old world culture into modern-day colonial architecture. Aside from its business-centric attributes, Monterrey is home to an extensive restaurant and nightlife scene, prestigious universities, breathtaking views of the Sierra Madre Mountains, and several famous museums including the Museo del Vidrio and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo.

Things to See

Monterrey’s main plaza, Gran Plaza, was created in the 1980’s and is now the heart of the business district. Amid the hustle and bustle of the business world, you’ll discover some of the city’s most historic buildings and museums. The Museo de Arte Contemporeo, acclaimed as one of the top museums in the country, houses exhibits of famous Mexican and international artists. Another must-see museum is the Cerro del Obispado. Formally the home of the Bishop de Monterrey, this museum boasts sprawling views of the city and contains the regional history museum. The Macro Plaza is a large park lined with fountains and gardens that house historic monuments where you can walk around and spend an afternoon exploring. After strolling through the park, seek out Zona Rosa to find a restaurant to grab a bite to eat or wander through the upscale shops and galleries.

Where to Stay

Gran Plaza is one of the largest plazas in the world. Full of energy and beautiful walkways and fountains, the plaza houses many of the city’s most well-known buildings, such as the cathedral, the Government Palace, and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo. Zona Rosa is home to many luxury shops and top-rated restaurants as well as shopping malls and modern commercial centers similar to those found in the United States. In the historic and eclectic part of the city, Barrio Antiguo, you can catch a glimpse of Monterrey’s past while exploring the trendy art galleries, chic cafés and antique shops.

How to Get to Monterrey

The Monterrey International Airport (IATA: MTY) offers daily flights to and from all major Mexican destinations as well as a large variety of U.S. cities, such as Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas, and many others. To get to your destination, you can either find a taxi counter inside the terminal and prepay your fare for an authorized taxi or opt for the shuttle that takes you to the bus station in the city center. There are also several rental car options found inside the terminal. When in the city center, taking a taxi or walking are your best options. If you are looking for a convenient way to see the city, there are tourist trolleys and riverboats along the Paseo Santa Lucia. Use caution when traveling around the city after dark or in unfamiliar areas, avoiding the bars and nightclubs after 10 or 11 PM in most areas of the city.
