I was welcomed by Fernando, who was very friendly despite the fact it was pretty late and I was exhausted, as my cab broke down about 1km from the hotel so I walked rather than got another one, took
some time to talk about the way the hotel worked and was very chatty and gave good overviews of the service offered, top notch welcome.
I took advantage of a cut price executive upgrade for 11 quid extra and honestly I could have no complaints about the bedroom, great very comfortable bed (best night sleep I had in ages!) and everything looked brand new. Huge TV (biggest I've seen in a hotel) and good aircon and room to work with HI providing complimentary chocolate bar and a still and sparkling water as well as the standard tea and coffee.
The bathroom as others said, was on the small side, but not as bad as some people on TA have made out. Yes it's impossible to get in the shower with the door open, and you do need to close it, and ideally there would be more room, but it's not a deal breaker, the shower is powerful, the toilet is not so squashed you cannot use it and the sink is of good quality and the executive toiletries and the bathrobe were an added bonus!
I did not sample the food since I ate out, but I did sample the on demand movies, whilst they are not cheap at 7.50, seeing one on a Sunday night when I was leaving quite early the next morning was pretty good with full DVD like controls and as you can imagine, on a huge 38" screen was a good experience!
Overall, HI Ipswich comes highly recommended, now it's refurbished it's a really nice hotel! [Less]
