I've watched this hotel be built from our office a block away. I typically drive in from the other side of the state weekly, but I decided to spend a night and experience the new hotel and W-S at
The hotel is beautiful inside. It has a really cool vibe and decor. There was a Pride event going on that night, so the lobby was full, lively, and welcoming. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient, but I didn't really see many other guests (it was a Sunday night though).
The room was AWESOME. I loved the furniture! The colors and design and layout were so amazing. The desk chair was incredible - I wanted to take it home with me. The colors and wall decor were cute, and the floors were old wooden panels that creaked a bit. I was worried it might be too loud, but I never heard any other guests creaking, so it was contained the room. It had a charming historic feeling. The bathroom was really charming too, and it had a towel bar beneath the sink, which is exactly where I want a towel. Why don't all hotel bathrooms do that?!
Breakfast was deLISH Monday morning (omelet and hashbrowns!), and the staff member there was super friendly despite it being 6:45 on a Monday morning. The bar service and dinner the previous night was not a great experience though. The printed menu in the room, which was the same as what was listed on the website, was out of date. The staff said it was old but it hadn't been changed in the rooms or online yet. So they didn't have what I wanted (veggie risotto), and almost everything on the new menu had meat or shrimp. I ordered a Diet Coke at the bar, and 2 different people came back with the same drink, looking a bit confused with one another. And another guest said he had waited 15 minutes for a drink, and I heard the server say that she didn't know how to make it and was waiting for help. It was a busy night because of the event, and the place is pretty new, so I get it. They were very pleasant, but I ended up walking down the street for pizza.
Overall I had a lovely time. Great experience for the price. It's an unfortunate location because it's not a very nice area, especially at night, but the facility was gorgeous. A couple suggestions:
1. These modern showers need to be redesigned. The shower head is on the opposite side from the knob and the one shelf. The water pressure was low, so to get the soap or change the temperature, you had to step out of the water. Annoying, but not the end of the world. Also, it would be so nice to have a step or ledge for those of us who shave our legs. Just sayin'.
2. The toilet paper was really far from the toilet. It was to the side and a bit back, so you had to twist to reach it. I know neither of my parents would've been able to reach. Again, not the end of the world, but maybe a re-placement of the TP would be nice.
3. The elevator is really slow and loud. I'll chalk this up to it being a renovated building. The elevators themselves are new, but there were some odd sounds coming from outside of it. And I think I could've walked down 6 flights faster than taking the elevator. Once again, not the end of the world, but something to keep in mind if you're in a rush and on the top floor. [Less]
