York is a medieval city in the northeastern part of the United Kingdom that was founded by ancient Romans and where you can see the Viking, Victorian, Medieval and Anglian pasts all put together. You will find history, shopping, eateries and more in this relatively quaint area in the various neighbourhoods that form it. Select a few of these attractive neighbourhoods in York, and you will be an expert of the city in no time. Here are a few neighbourhoods you can visit to experience the rich culture of York.

The street of Shambles was voted the "most picturesque" road in Britain. The cobbled street is lined with timber-framed buildings that date to the 14th and 15th centuries, where you can visit the busy local market daily. You can also experience how the Vikings lived here in York at the JORVIK Viking Centre and take in expansive views from the 13th century castle keep, Clifford's Tower. The city centre is also surrounded by medieval walls that take about two hours to walk around.
