Salt Lake City (SLC) is a jewel that most people have to see to believe. It's the busy, bustling center of an impressive metropolitan area. Whether you're traveling here for business or pleasure, you won't want to leave when it's time to fly home.
Of the many experiences to have in SLC, a visit to the Great Salt Lake itself tops the list. It's 1,700 square miles, making it the biggest natural lake anywhere west of the Mississippi River. Liberty Park offers up 80 acres of outdoor heaven, or you can go skiing at Park City, located 30 miles away from SLC. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is a feast for the eyes, as is the Red Butte Garden and Arboretum. If you have time, explore the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
Salt Lake City is full of charming neighborhoods. Book accommodation in or near Greater Avenues to enjoy historical appeal, cute coffee shops, farm-to-table restaurants and easy access to events downtown. To see what Salt Lake City gets up to after dark, you have to stay downtown. Central City has an altogether quieter atmosphere with less expensive hotels. Sugar House boasts an art house vibe with vanguard restaurants, boutiques and cafes. Capitol Hill has a distinctly gothic flair, with lots of Victorian architecture.
Flying into SLC comes courtesy of Salt Lake City International Airport, on the city's western side. It's a hub for Delta. You can grab a taxi or an Uber to get downtown, and it shouldn't cost more than $20. However, plenty of hotels provide a free airport shuttle. To get around Salt Lake City, rent a bike or a car, or make use of the city's excellent transportation system.
