I was very disappointed upon check-in to be told that no longer would an Ambassador member be eligible for club lounge access with an upgrade to a club room. I was informed that this is a new policy
that now extends to only Spire Elite or Royal Ambassador. So it seems that the longer you are loyal to IHG, the more you have to achieve to receive the same benefits that you used to. Benefits are decreasing rather than increasing with competition. I voiced my disappointment to the staff checking me in. I later received a phone call from the front desk "inviting" me to tea-time "only for today." I guess it was meant as a gesture of good will, but it seems they missed the point of why I was upset.
That sort of set the tone for the rest of my stay there. My hot water didn't work even though I let it run for ten minutes. They had to send someone to fix it. And then the next morning, even though I had my "do not disturb" sign on, front desk called me to tell me engineers were outside my room to fix something, even though I didn't ask for anything to be fixed - wrong room, it appears.
Big pro - it is very very close to Hongqiao airport. Con - it is far from everything else. BIG CON - less benefits. I was also told that if I had stayed at the Crowne, then as a Platinum Ambassador, I would have received club lounge benefits. Apparently being a Platinum Ambassador doesn't matter anymore at Intercontinental.
Which makes me begin to wonder why I should be loyal to IHG anymore especially in big cities where there are countless other really nice hotels in the same price range.
Bru, their lounge restaurant, was great. Breakfasts were pretty good too. [Less]
