The hotel was only several weeks old when we stayed just before Christmas Dec 18th-22nd. Extremely easy for us to find, extremely quiet area, staff were awesome and very helpful and friendly. We did not need the shuttle service but they did offer it. They did have a few computers and a printer to use free of charge which was nice since I needed to print tickets for something we were doing in NYC and I forgot to do it at home. They offer a small fitness center which we didn't have time to use but it has enough to do some lifting and cardio. The rooms were brand new, smelled fresh, beds and pillows were extremely comfortable and we had no trouble sleeping which is a huge plus since I am a light sleeper and have trouble sleeping - very comfy here! Bathrooms were gorgeous for a Holiday Inn. Clean bathrooms, shower, toilet, sink, and the towels were amazingly soft!! Small closet and small drawers and it seemed they wasted a lot of drawer space in our room with the dresser only having 3 small top drawers and under it was all open space with a bench under one side (which we didn't need to use) and the other side had a pull out table and desk chair which we did use, but we could have done without either or at least just one and not the other and had more drawer space but it truly was not that big of a deal. It was a bit tighter with closet and drawer space being we went in winter, December, where if you go when it is warmer out and have shorts and tank tops you have much more room with way less bulky clothing. Everything in our room worked great and functioned well. We loved the light ambient lighting behind the head of the bed - not too bright, not too light, just perfect for a relaxing night after the city and it was still dim enough I could fall asleep with them on while my husband had to do some work on his laptop. Halls were clean, lobby was clean and welcoming. They did have a small restaurant but we were at the city all morning and late into the night so we did not use it other than my husband grabbing a coffee every morning, in which staff was very friendly and fast. No pool at this facility. We had no trouble with parking - parking in front and around back and the Holiday Inn is right next to two other hotels that have parking as well.
I found it odd that the hotel is brand new and only one elevator was functioning the entire 5 days we were there and never saw any service being done on the other one but I did read a review of someone that stayed right before us that mentioned one elevator being down so we expected it....however, it was no issue with one elevator for the hotel was not busy.
The only room complaint was minor and not really blaming the hotel - the individuals that stayed there before us must have been rude, disrepspectful or unsanitary people because my husband went to open the drawer of the night stand to place something in it and there were used tissues/toilet paper thrown in there - obviously we didn't inspect it and just grabbed stuff to clean it up but we knew it was used for one of a few things being it was next to the bed in a drawer - GROSS!! It would have been nice if the employee cleaning the room would check all drawers and everything possible before letting someone else check in, but at the same time how gross and disrespectful of someone staying to have done that in the first place?!
We had no trouble at all checking in or out and it was extremely fast. Front desk was helpful and answered any questions we had. They always said hello, good morning, good evening, bye - when they saw us. We were on floor 5 not too far from a vending machine and ice but we didn't need to use either - we did not hear anything or anyone using them - whether no one did or it's sound proof that well, we didn't hear anything.
Cleaning staff never bothered us when our do not disturb sign was up and we never heard them in the hall or in any other rooms which was nice because sometimes we stay places and hear them banging things in the halls. Water pressure in the shower and bathroom was great - hot water worked just fine and never had any issues, windows were nice with a few of the highway but could not hear it at all, had a nice thick brand new blind that could be pulled down and drapes as well - never any issue with outside noise or light coming in. It was not immediately next to anything but just a slight drive away - 1-2 mins or a short walk to a few things by a LA Fitness like Wendys. We did arrive very late the first night and went for a drive to make sure we knew how long it would take to get to the Staten Island Ferry and to find some food to grab and we did have to drive around a bit. Lots of things were closed si nce it was late (our fault) but we do have Navigation so we were able to follow food icons and we did find fast food places still open but they are a drive and not walkable - no big deal for us but just figured I'd include it in the review if anyone was wondering what was nearby. There are plazas and places to shop if you need things but you just have to drive around to locate them.
All in all this hotel was great for a Holiday Inn and for a small location like Staten Island. It was a wonderful stay and we would stay there again.
