Insider Tips

Located only 90 minutes from Merida. The Kukulcan pyramid is the most famous building in this UNESCO archaeological site, followed by the ball court and the Mayan observatory. Every 21st March and 21st September during the Spring and Fall equinoxes, crowds appear to watch an astronomical phenomenon: at the rising and setting of the sun, the corner of the pyramid casts a shadow in the shape of a plumed serpent onto the north staircase. As the sun moves, the serpent slithers down the northern side of the pyramid.
Once a Spanish general’s stately mansion, this Merida luxury hotel blends colonial elegance with every modern convenience. Relax on our outdoor terrace and enjoy the finest tequila selection in the city. Explore historic Yucatán and the tree-lined splendour of Palacado Monteo, once Mexico’s wealthiest district. This Merida luxury hotel is also well placed to explore the area’s fascinating heritage, including Izamal and the ancient Mayan ruins, one of the seven wonders of the world.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Our departing flight was rescheduled for a day later than planned due to mechanical problems with the plane. I informed the hotel we would be getting in a day later, Their response to that was no problem, don't worry. This 14 night trip was paid for in advance, however now we were going to be there only13 nights. I inquired about staying an extra night to get what I had paid for and I was told, after a week and a half of haggling, that I would have to pay for the additional night. This made no sense to me. I also did not receive a refund for this night by the hotel or the travel agency. The food in the restaurant was only passable. I ordered a pizza for lunch one day and I received a frozen one similar to what you would get from the frozen foods section of your supermarket, It was not even a very good one at that, and it was barely cooked. The hotel was very noisy, therefor difficult to get to sleep and stay asleep. Doors to the rooms were slamming,(and I mean SLAMMING) all night long or someone was talking loudly going down the hall. The safe in our room was broken so I reported it. Someone came to look at it but that was as far as it went. I was quite disappointed. I had to carry all of my money with me, and a lap top computer whenever I left the hotel. 10 February 2014
