They call Philadelphia “The City of Brotherly Love,” and indeed there is plenty to love in this sizable city. It is the largest city in Pennsylvania and the fifth-largest in the U.S. With good information to plan your visit, Philly is a prime place for lots of unforgettable experiences.

Things to See

While sports are a good reason to visit Philly, the city offers plenty other fantastic things to do. Come hungry; Reading Terminal Market is one of the city's top dining attractions. There you can sample the best of Philly's cuisine, whether you are craving an irresistible sandwich or a undeniably decadent dessert.

American history buffs cherish Philadelphia’s rich heritage, which includes landmarks like Independence National Historical Park and the famous Liberty Bell. Stroll through Independence Hall and be sure to say you visited must-see Valley Forge National Historic Park. The Philadelphia Zoo’s 42 acres serve as home to more than 1,300 animals, and its award-winning exhibits will thrill your entire family. You’ll also want to make time to see Longwood Gardens’ impressive display of horticulture.

Science fanatics should not leave without exploring the Franklin Institute, which hosts a walk-through model of a heart, the Sports Challenge, a Changing Earth display and an IMAX theater.

Hotels in Philadelphia

Philadelphia hotels take in a range of guests; some are ideal for solo business travelers while others cater to families. The city isn't exactly a resort destination so you won't find an overabundance of luxury hotels in the city, however there are still numerous options for high tastes, such as the Crowne Plaza property, or more affordable accommodations at Holiday Inn or the cozy Candlewood Suites.

Where to Stay

Old City is a top choice for vacationers in Philadelphia. This is where you'll find the city's top historic attractions as well as numerous shopping and dining options. Plus, the area is easy to walk so you won't have to worry about finding parking. Nearby Society Hill is another solid option; it is quieter than Old City but still close to the city’s core.

How to Get to Philadelphia

Philadelphia International Airport serves the city and the surrounding Pennsylvania area. If your hotel does not provide a shuttle service from the airport, it's easy to hop on public transportation and get into the main part of the city.

Our stay

Hotel cleanliness and location are great. Only issue was I reserved two queen beds but on check in was told I got an upgrade but upon entering the room realized I didn't have queen beds. I wasn't [More] happy with this but didn't complain. Also I thought there was complementary breakfast only to find out in the morning that we didn't have that either. [Less]
Good Attitudes at Front Desk
By Dave
I visit the Philadelphia area about 6 times a year for almost a decade. Over that time I eventually wound up staying here every time I visit. The reason why is a good value coupled with a true [More] "customer is always right" attitude from the front desk.... If you stay somewhere more than 50 times, occasionally there's going to be something wrong. On those occasions they always fix whatever it was, fast and friendly. [Less]

This is a great hotel for stay-and-park near the Philly airport--a bonus is that there's a patio area in the back on the river where you can watch the planes coming in. The rooms are upgraded and [More] clean; staff is friendly. There isn't a restaurant, but there are a couple of restaurant/bars within walking distance that are good options. [Less]
