We were completely shocked when we walked in the room last year & saw how great the room was - and that we'd actually gotten a room last minute during peak ski season. (the aren't listed in the Granite Peak brochure, otherwise it'd be booked). We thought it was brand new. This hotel is a great deal! Room super clean, really really nice kitchen w/ stovetop, full-size fridge, sink, plenty of dishes & cookware. Nice table to eat at. Good sized room - the only not great thing is the ugly view of the factory - but we were there to ski , & liked the view of Rib Mountain in the background. We've stayed at a lot of hotels & this is definitely the BEST value around. There is a large grocery store in the mall (the hotel is in an ugly mall....) so you can stock up for groceries. It's a quick 5-10 minute drive to Rib mountain - totally worth it. Even better, they are putting in a pool. It is the best place to stay for skiing. I should add - super nice staff, too.

We had an 8-night stay and were very happy with our choice. The room was very clean. The full size fridge was very helpful since we actually stocked up on groceries from the store that was only about two or three blocks away. Relatively quiet place, although the floors are thin, so I would recommend staying on the upper floor. There were a couple mornings where we could hear the people staying above us stomp around. Also there were children running around on the second floor; that was kind of annoying too. Besides that, had a nice time and the staff were incredibly friendly.

I had a king suite for a 7 day stay and it had everything I needed to make my stay comfortable. The kitchenette is more than adequate with a full size frig, cooktop, microwave and dishwasher. The room was very clean and the hotel was more or less quiet for the length of my stay. The hotel was undergoing renovations to construct a full size pool and a breakfast lounge area for guests so there was a bit of disruption during my stay but nothing that made my stay less comfortable. The hotel staff were very polite, courteous and helpful. The location of this hotel is not very convenient to other amenities but it was in close proximity to Highway 51, a north/south freeway that runs throughout the Wausau area, so getting from one side of town to the other was pretty easy. As well, there is a Pic n' Save grocery store within 2 blocks as well as a few restaurants and a bank. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel.

Best kept secret of any place in the midwest. Squeeky clean, super friendly staff, incredibly low price and 5 star quality on every front. THE PLACE TO STAY, if you're in this area!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by PackerBacker1 A nice place to stay. Give it a chance.
I stayed at this Candlewood Suites (my first) in October 2013. The staff was nice, room was clean and spacious, entire building was clean, nice gym, only 1 elevator made things a little slow. There are limited places to eat near this hotel but it is easy access to the highway. I would stay there again because it was a great value and comfortable stay.
If they could offer a breakfast/happy hour like more of the extended stay options are these days, it would be nice.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by dave29 Randomly drafting my bank account and ran out of towels?!?!?!
I stayed at the Rothschild/Wausau, Wisconsin facility and was very dissatisfied with the service I had. My story starts out by them drafting random money amounts, from my account, multiple times without authorization, then when I needed fresh towels, they told me that I'd have to wait, because they were "all out!?!?" How can you look at me and tell me that you don't know how my accounts were drafted and tell me that it wasn't any of your computers that did the drafting? How do you run a hotel and run out of towels?
I must still give Candlewood props for the actual facilities. I had good rest and enjoyed their amenities; however, the incompetency of the staff was overbearing. Change the staff, and I'd give it a 4.8 out of 5.

I was very pleased to find an efficiency kitchen included as well as a Desk area to work. The towels are of great quality. I got a great nights sleep thanks to the very comfortable bed. Many times I have stayed at nice motels and the beds have been so hard I could not sleep. Even the pillows were not to thick and not to thin, they conformed to a persons neck. The traffic noise was minimal so as not to disturb the peaceful stay. When I arrived everything was nice and clean and the quiet air conditioner was on to provide the right temperature. Although there is no swimming pool. I can honestly say this is one of the best motels I have stayed at. Good Location for business travelers.
