Kansas City sprawls along Missouri's westernmost edge, the largest city in the state and one of the biggest in the U.S. It's a hub for communication, distribution and transportation because of its location along the Missouri River. Not only is it a hip place, but its intriguing backstory colors nearly every square inch of its limits.
It's no shocker that Kansas City boasts many museums, including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Arabia Steamboat Museum and the National World War I Museum and Memorial. Boulevard Brewing Company is the city's answer to Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis. Watch the Royals play at Kauffman Stadium and celebrate like a true fan. For shopping, head to Country Club Plaza, an outdoor mall with shops, restaurants and cinemas. In the City Power & Light District, become part of Kansas City's thriving nightlife.
The City Power & Light District is an exciting, bustling place to stay during your trip to Kansas. Westport is another lovely area with hotels, restaurants, stores and plenty to do after dusk as well. For a more natural adventure, try to find a place in River Market so you can enjoy easy access to the biggest Farmer's Market in the Midwest. It's the sort of neighborhood where you walk merely because you enjoy the scenery. Save a little money on accommodation in Brookside, which is like a small town in Kansas City.
Fly into Kansas City International Airport, which is in the Northland. The city's Transportation Authority provides bus service every hour that will take you to and from the airport. Amtrak and Greyhound have popular ports in the city, too.
