Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Iowa hotels allow smoking I made the mistake assuming all hotels do not allow smoking. I booked a smoking room at the last minute and didn't realize it until I completed the booking. We sprayed Febreeze and left windows open and still stunk. Is Iowa and this Holiday Inn chain stuck in the 90's....stop smoking in any hotel. My entire family slept bad because of it. I called the front desk when I was hit with the smell of smoke, but was told I a smoking room and no other rooms were available. My bad, but I really thought smoking was something done outside now. Having the mini-store was VERY helpful and the free laundry service was a nice surprise. We thank you for taking good care of us and making all the accommodations needed for a handicap room. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by My room smelled horribly! My room was marked outside the door as non-smoking but I think it must have been a smoking room previously and that they sprayed it like crazy. I reeked to high heaven. I had a really hard time getting to sleep - I pulled the sheets over my nose but got too hot. The room was somewhat worn but clean. The floor I was on must have had smoking rooms too or else the air handling brought it there because when I stepped off the elevator into the hall it smelled like cigarettes there. I was under the impression that there were no other rooms and I had tried to make reservations at two other motels first so figured I was stuck. And I didn't get there anyway until after 10pm so I was tired out. I just cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel unless you are not at all concerned about smells. But I must say the desk staff man was super - I was very impressed with him! I had no encounters with any other staff - got there after 10pm and left about 7:15am. August 17, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Smoking rooms Not sure how i ended up with a smoking room when i booked on IHG. My preference as a platinum member is non-smoking. I did not realize smoking rooms existed in the U.S.A.. Tried to change out room to Non-smoking but no rooms available.. Room obviously smelled like smoke, curtains furniture etc. I tried to open the window but could only slide it 2 inches as it had a stop on the window track. Fortunately was able to completely remove the sliding window from the track to air the place out. Was frustrated.. If another room elsewhere in the area was available I would have checked out and moved to another hotel August 17, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed I arrived early evening. Upon arrival, I was informed I could not have a non-smoking room even though I had specifically requested a non-smoking room and had booked the room weeks earlier. I was also informed there were no other rooms available in the area - all hotels were booked. I was informed the hotel does not "guarantee you'll get what you request" when I questioned why the hotel had not held a non-smoking room for me. By the time I left the next morning, my eyes stung horribly, I had slept horribly, and I was not happy. Will never stay at this hotel again. Only takes one bad experience to ruin brand loyalty.
