I have stayed at many HIE for business and they are usually fine. Average, nothing fancy, business hotel rooms. But my stay at this property was unbelievably bad and will make me rethink ever staying at this brand again, definitely will never stay at this particular property again.
I was booked for a one night stay. I arrived after work around 1030 pm, checked in and given a room on the first floor. The room seemed fine upon entering. The problems started when I turned on the tv, none of the channels corresponded with the channel guide. I called the front desk to inquire and the clerk came down and messed with the tv for a few minutes. She said she had to go talk to maintenance because she didn't know what was going on. I got a call a few minutes later, the clerk says the tv in the room is a temporary tv while the tv normally in the room is out for repairs. They can offer $10 off the room and five thousand honor points. I ask for another room and they are completely booked. I reluctantly I agree since it was so late, but looking back I should have just left and demanded a refund because I found out later the TV was not the only problem.
I thought maybe I get at least get on the internet and catch up on the days news and email, but the Wi-Fi was so slow!!! I needed to upload a document that was only 23 KB, that's kilobytes, with a "k", but I couldn't! That's how slow the WiFi is at this hotel. I think the router iss connected to a phone modem. So no TV, essentially no Wi-Fi or in-room internet connection.
Later that evening when the temperature started to cool down I wanted to turn on the heat, only to discover the rooms cooling/heating unit did not work. And when I went to lock the door I discovered the dead bolt on the door did not work! Un-frickin-believable!
To add insult to injury, when I checked the bill slipped under my door the next morning, they hadn't bothered to deduct the $10 as promised. I had to go ask the front desk at check out. The funny thing was the front desk clerk did so without batting an eye, like she does it all the time. The fact that the last room to be rented out in a completely booked hotel had the broken tv, climate unit, door deadbolt means either they knew the room deficiencies and rented out anyway or they have lots of rooms with broken furnishings. Either way, stay away from this terrible property!
