It was a bit misleading to say the hotel is near the airport. Near maybe compared to central Madrid.
The taxi to and from the airport and the hotel was as much as the hotel.
The TV was "special". It took a long while to get it to work .
WiFi was free , but to use their computer has $4.00 an hour.

This was by far one of the saddest Holiday Inn experiences I have ever endured. The staff was surly upon check-in, the room was dirty at best, the beds were horribly uncomfortable and the carpet was extremely worn down and very dirty. The power kept going off in the room due to a faulty beverage heater pot and we had to get help twice - that was one of the few good points. The food was marginal in the restaurant and there seem to be some kind of disconnect between the hotel and the diner. I am glad we were only there for one night and that I used my company discount to reduce paying for this disgrace of a room.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Holidaymaker2013 Excellent value for money, large family room is great, all new
This was a great choice. The only downside of this hotel is that it is hard to find without a GPS. Madrid is a pure highway chaos. The area is noisy but that can be expected. Definitely recommend for all those that need to stay near the airport. Drive time to the airport is around 10 minutes. Underground garage cost €13 per night which is overcharged given the fact that a family room incl. breakfast was €56. However there were several parking places behind the hotel, which are free. Staff was polite and helpful. Breakfast was allright.
Price level at the bar as well as of the hotel menu is acceptable. The hotel is best reached by car.

We chose this hotel because we thought that it was situated next to the airport and that we could easyly reach it.
We had to take a taxi (costs 25 € at least) to go to the airport.

I thought it would be convenient to the airport and the price was certainly right, but it would actually have been cheaper to stay in downtown Madrid and take the Metro to the airport. I got cheated 10 euros on my trip to the hotel by taxi; wifi was 11 euros per day; and any public transportation is not convenient. The room was clean; restaurant was reasonable and food ok. Would be ok if you have lots of luggage and a one-night layover. Most staff members could not converse in English.

Like other travellers, I found this Holiday Inn to be sub-par, which goes against my general perception of HI's in Europe--they typically outshine the US properties.
Lack of shuttle service was a true frustration. The hotel is only a few KM away from the airport, and I was assessed a 25 Euro cab fare each way--one cabbie originally offered me a fee of 40 euro just to get there. The hotel next door has a shuttle. Had I known it's location relevant to the HI, I would have taken their shuttle or stayed there.
Also, the lack of fresh fruit--canned?? Seriously!? The lack of fresh fruit was another significant ding. This was the first European hotel I've stayed in--after many trips--that did not offer fresh fruit. Also, the potato casserole offered was cold and wouldn't pass government standards.

Wifi didn't work that night, although air conditioning did. Breakfast is definitely continental, no yogurt or eggs. Good coffee machine though!

Being from America, I come to expect a certain standard from Holiday Inn Express, and this property fails to keep that standard. Not only do i expect a good value room for a relatively inexpensive price, but also I expect the rest of the expirence to be good as well.Although the hotel room was okay, everything else I was a little disapointed with. First of all, no transportation from the airport is provided so I had to pay 40 € altogether for transportation to and from the airport. Not only that, but I'm also then stranded at the hotel if I don't want to spend 50+ € to get into the city. The food provided by the restaurant in the hotel was a joke. I had a pizza that tasted like it came out of a frozen pizza box. Also the hotel had a few hidden fees I didn't care for, for instance the 11 € fee for wifi internet. I have been going to Holiday Inn Expresses for years, and this was by far my worst experience at a Holiday Inn Express.
