Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 4MAndros We've had better
We were told after calling location was 1 mile from highway, it was actually almost 4. Upon arrival we noticed missing and water stained ceiling tiles in the lobby. The room under the beds were dirty. While trying to check out at the front desk, I waited 5 minutes with another gentleman that had been waiting longer and we both just had to leave our keys on the desk and leave because no one came. We've definitely had better experiences!

Our room had ants that got into everything. Luckily for us we were able to find a room that did not have an ant problem and were able to move rooms.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KenGA Downtown Location is Wonderful...
I spent 5 nights here while visiting the area. While it is an older property, it is very reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly always acknowledging me as I left or returned each day. The breakfast room was excellent (thanks to Lucy!) - although the pancake machine should probably be replaced - it was very temperamental! The bed was comfortable, the AC worked well, the shower was great. There was always hot coffee in the lobby. High marks on all the important stuff.
The downtown location just cannot be beat. It is just a couple blocks off the town square with sandwiches, coffee, a grocery store, antique store, a movie house and other stores all easily walkable.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rgbeme Horrible place to stay
I arrived at this location at about 7:00PM and was told that some of the rooms may not have water. They said that due to renovations (which are very much needed for this site) that some of the water had been shut off by the contractors and they were trying to get them back to correct the situation. The manager of the site should probably not have let the contractors leave the hotel in such a state. My room did not have water. I contacted IHG customer service and I was eventually moved to a room that had water.
I went to use the spa area by the pool. There area was outdated, worn and poorly maintained. A drain plug for the spa was exposed with a sharp edge and i cut my ankle on it.
The following morning i was rushed through breakfast. With all of the other problems at the hotel, the manager may have wanted to inform the breakfast staff that there my be some upset guests, which there were, at the tables and rushing them may not have been the best thing to do.
The hotel was not clean, inside and out and although the staff tried, i did not get the feeling there concerns were genuine. I have stayed at over 50 IHG sites all over the country and abroad in the last 18 months and this was absolutely the worst site, by far, that i have stayed at.

My first impression of the Newton Holiday Inn was a pleasant experience. It sits in the center of town on a large lot that ws inviting. The staff at the desk was helpful but not friendly and ask if we would like water bottles explaining the snacks were all gone or she would offer one. She directed us to our room which was clean and neat but had the appearance of an older hotel. Our stay was pleasant and we sleep well.
We were surprised when our bill slipped under the door showed a room fee balance since this should have been an IHG Rewards Club benefit. The young woman at the desk did not have a clue how to correct the error in the computer said she wishes she had more training but she just prints the bills and passed them under the door. After waiting for the day shift to arrive the billing error was corrected.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Chitown Nibs Great stay in Newton, IA, HI-Express
Had no idea what to expect on my first visit to Newton, IA; arrived on a slow Sunday aft; check-in was effortless, room was great, request for a refrigerator was in place;
Stayed three nights (S-M-T); breakfasts each day were a great perk; housekeeping was courteous and accommodating; front desk staff was very friendly;
Two blocks off of classic town square; maybe one-half mile (if that) from classic Maytag Park; Only hotel/motel right in the heart of charming, folksy Newton; Property is maintained so it looks as if it couldn't be more than two or three years old (I'm told it is);
Would strongly recommend; very "Iowa," and that generally means low-key, straightforward and friendly.
