Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff but property in need of tlc. Staff get 10 out of 10. All friendly and helpful. On a two week road trip and this was the most expensive night of all and the least comfortable. Our room clearly used to be a smoking room-it had that strong, stale smell.The hotel is generally tired looking and shabby. It lacks the comfortable feel of most H.I. brand properties. Glad it wasn't our first H.Inn experience as we wouldn't have chosen to stay in one again. September 18, 2014

No non-smoking room was available and the smoking room had a strong smoke smell. There were insufficient plugs for computer available. The location near a chain restaurant was convenient. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location for Black Hills Location is great for visiting the Black Hills region. But, initially a bit hard to find a way into the hotel as the only hotel sign is on Mr. Rushmore Rd., which provides no access in/out of the hotel. Road access in/out of the hotel is limited to only the side street, Cathedral Rd. but the entry drive has no hotel sign posted there. The entry drive appears to serve a nearby gas station. A small hotel sign at the entry point would have helped on our first arrival. But, after figuring out the eggress, we enjoyed easy access to Mt. Rushmore Rd and the Black Hills region. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst of 6 Holiday Inn stays We have stayed in 6 Holiday Inn properties in the last 2 weeks. This was our least favorite. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable but not very professional. The desk clerk was very friendly but was dressed in a very tight tank top. When we got to our room someone had used a hand towel and left it on the bathroom counter. There is a big ugly stain on our ottoman and the carpet did not feel clean. They closed up the breakfast area early. They said they closed because they "didn't think anyone one else was coming down." They reluctantly partially set it up for us but didn't put out plates or bowls. We weren't the last guests to want breakfast. They didn't apologize or try to make it better for us. This hotel gives the chain a bad name. September 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Staff I was travelling alone with my 2yr old and 10mo old. The staff was very helpful setting up our room with a crib and 1st floor guest room. At breakfast the staff was right there to help bring over a high chair for my daughter and the nights stay was wonderful. September 5, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable pillows I love the choice of soft or firm pillows. I think the young man trying to keep up with breakfast deserves a raise!! There should be more thermos of coffee available at breakfast. I thought someone should be at the front desk when you arrive, not have to ring for service. To be fair it was about 8:00 PM when we arrived, but this was a first at a Holiday Inn Express for me. I really would have liked a refrigerator in the room This is the first time we haven't had one. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff The hotel staff was very friendly and the location is excellent for work or pleasure. While I was confident my bathroom had been properly cleaned, a used bar of soap was left in my shower. The first morning of my stay, they were out of forks in the breakfast area. Price may have been reasonable based on popular tourist location but seemed a little high. Since I travel primarily for business, the room was set up nicely to accommodate working in the room. Will return for business and hopefully some day for pleasure. August 31, 2014
