Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Heating Problem Fixed We had a heating A/C problem the first night, because it was not functioning properly. We told the staff at the front desk the following morning and it was fixed when we returned in the evening. I expected a small refrigerator and microwave in a King Room. We did not have one. This was the first time I used the IHG rewards points for a room and I was somewhat disappointed. Coffee was in the room the first night, but was not replenished the following days...unacceptable. The only plus for this visit is it was a pet friendly motel. October 12, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not your typical Holiday Inn Express If you are expecting a brand new facility that touts cleanliness and a fresh atmosphere that you are used to in the Holiday Inn Express moniker, this is not it. This facility was obviously a change over from another chain - something less and older. There is that "old hotel with vacuum powder cover up" smell to it. After having to wait until after 4 PM to check in, my bathroom looked like it was a forgotten project. Splatters of a brownish substance permeated the sink (I was hoping coffee and not something else...). There was no shower curtain and when brought to the attention of the desk clerk, the response was "Really?" and no action... so there is now a wet floor on the 3rd floor. That will help with the clean-up of the long strand and "other" hair still left from previous tenants. The locations for this facility is good but if you book in Rapid City, choose the Holiday Inn Express on the northend. It is a new built and will meet your expectations. October 7, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Won't Go Back First off, great location if you need to be by the regional medical center. And while the staff was great, they were more "reactive" than "active". In my 30 yrs of business travel there are few places I would not go back to - this is one of them. No microwave, no frog, a small table instead of a desk, no fruit out 24 hrs a day #most HIE do this- there were some sad store bought packaged cookies out in the evening#, gone 6 hrs the 2nd day and still came back to a room that had not been cleaned yet, smoking rooms on the same floor as the non-smoking rooms. Right next to busy Mt Rushmore Highway, so not sure any of the rooms in the whole building don't get heavy street noise #I know I did#, HVAC does not vice the option of "fan only" #which I would have used to cover some of the street noise#. I know you can't choose your guests, but had people down the hall running up and down the hall and constantly slamming their room doors one evening/night. Nope, won't be back to this location in my travels. October 1, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Tired Facity and Tired Staff Stayed at this hotel for several days. The location is great for visiting Mt. Rushmore and downtown (which I would highly recommend). A previous reviewer had described this facility as being "tired" and I would agree. The facility needs to be updated and freshened up. I have never stayed at a HI Express that did not have a refrigerator and microwave in the room (that is part of why I stay at HI Express). This is not the case at this location and I was informed that refrigerators and microwaves are only standard in the "suite" rooms. The front desk staff did not present a professional appearance (sloppy dressed/stained shirts). An example of the lack of customer service is illustrated when I went down to use the business center computer and needed to print. I received an error message saying the printer was off line. I approached the front desk clerk to see if they could help me figure it out and I was informed that it was "working earlier." No help. I eventually figured out the problem (on my own). This location is an exception to the comfortable standard I have experienced at numerous other HI Express locations. September 29, 2014
