The staff at this hotel should be replaced the quality of care they show does not fit the hospitality of others in this area.
I am not a fan of complete change but at this location I would recommend it.

We had someone in the hospital which was basically across the street so wanted to stay in the closest hotel. I would give them an A for everything but the price. Very spendy even with the hospital rate which was basically nill. The gal at the front desk even said their hospital rate was terrible in the summer

I was there 4 nights. Staff always very polite and responded with statements that they would pass the issue on to the management and or maintenance, but nothing was ever done. First big issue, never worried about reserving non smoking rooms at a HI Express before did not know any had smoking rooms. Hall and room carpets through out were disgusting and left the bottoms of feet or socks or shoes blackened. Was told three times (Okay each time it was a different staff member) they did not know about the leaky ice machine that kept the first floor hall carpet soaked and stinky or that the carpet was wet. Guest laundry was basically useless three 45 minute cycles in the dryer, left simple t shirts still wet and forget jeans they still dripped. Breakfast each day had one or more normal offerings (eggs, sausage, cinnamon rolls bread for toast, low fat or skim milk or apple juice) unavailable. I love HI Express had great nights in Alliance Nebraska, And Buffalo Wyoming on this trip also and will go to other properties again (Raton NM and Odessa TX, tomorrow and and the next night to be exact) But not this one. Holiday Inn Express these people are damaging your good name!

I wanted to treat my Mom to a fancy hotel the night before she had surgery. We found this one to be very nice but there wasn't anything grand or elegant about it. Because it cost about double the price of those nearby, I expected something special. This was simply overpriced. It was very conveniently located to the hospital and surgery center.

Good property, all hotels in area are fairly high. Good location for us.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by monicadcs OK hotel, but definitely not sound proof
This was a fine hotel, other than the fact that the air conditioner in our room was very noisy and the thermostat did not seem to be working properly. It is also kind of an older construction and definitely not sound proof. If you are lucky enough to be on the top floor or not to have people running on the room above you, or not to be in the room right next to the ice machine, it should be fine.
Other than that, we did get the service and quality we expect at a Holiday Inn hotel.

When I called to reserve I asked if it had a pool and hot tub, insanely small pool and no hot tub . People across the hall from us smoked and was like it was in our room , I have asthma as was extremely uncomfortable . Also when I called I was told it was newly remodeled , only thing new was the hall carpet . I've said at many holiday inns and it didn't have the newer healthy breakfast options . Bathroom was dirty , hair on washcloth and tub . Stain on the sheets . Not even close to be worth the price .

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tragus52 Value for overall hotel room and services
Hotel was in need of a major renovation, room had a recliner that looked like it came from a garage sale, was afraid to sit in it. When I checked in on Sunday evening, I was informed that the remaining 3 nights of my stay would increase by $50. While I understand that the price is reflective of what the market will bare, however $50 a night increase is not what I would consider the norm. If this were any other business, I would consider this to be gouging. Add some ammenities, if you want to charge such outrageous fees.
If I return to Rapid City, I will choose other accommodations!
