The Bargoin museum offers an archaeological departement with a collection of items from the prehistory, protohistory and Gallo-Roman eras, as well as a carpet and textile art collection.

Famous for its cheese of character of the same name, the peaceful village of Saint-Nectaire in the Monts Dore mountain area is dominated by its superb 12th-century Auvergne Romanesque church built by the monks of La Chaise-Dieu abbey in honour of Saint-Nectaire. This listed historic monument houses no fewer than 103 stunning carved capitals, as well as a treasury containing, among others, a bust of St Baudime in gilt copper and one of the Virgin of Mt Cornadore. It is absolutely stunning!

Grottes de Jonas originally came into existence after an eruption of the Jonas volcano. Later on, the grottoes were excavated by men and meant to serve as a shelter and a home. The first ones who began the caves’ digging were the Celts, who engaged in that uneasy endeavor as back as 400 BC. Their accomplishments were then advanced up to the 13th century. Nowadays, you can explore over 70 different cliff-carved rooms, placed over five floors that used to accommodate over 600 people at once.
