Room was clean, updated and quiet. Breakfast was good. Location is good. Staff is excellent. Have stayed here before and would again.

Room were not ready and staff was not friendly. Everyone was overwhelmed by the amout of customers and the fact that their rooms were not ready either. Not a great experience. Very disappointed.

Terrible Customer Service and a Dump

My boyfriend and I made a reservation at this hotel a month ago. We had plans to go see a concert that started at 7pm that cost us a lot of money. We had drove over 4 hours and we had planned to get ready in the hotel before our concert.

We arrived to the hotel around 5 pm on Saturday with multiple families waiting in the reception area and front courtyard. Come to find out they were all waiting for their rooms to be ready. I arrived to the front desk to check in and you could tell the receptionist (Michael) was already having a terrible day. No friendly greeting, no smile just "your room isn't ready". "Ok do you have any idea when it will be ready" ? "No". The receptionist next to him piped in and said 15-20 minutes. I assumed he was telling me that to just get rid of me. During this time their was no apology for the inconvenience. They told us they would call us when it would be ready.

An hour later no phone call. I called the front desk and they kept bouncing me around to the reception desk, to the bar , to back to the front desk. No one had any idea what was going on and no manager to speak to because she wasn't going to be in for another hour. Also, the receptionist on the phone said our check in isn't at 3pm it's at 4. Every website link you guys have says 3pm check in time. At this point I'm really upset. It is now 8pm and still no phone call. When I called back for the third time the manager finally arrived and said the room would be ready in 15 minutes. We rushed to the hotel room to change and rushed to our concert and missed two of the performers and barely caught the last hour of the show.
To top it off they stuck us in the dumpiest room. The shower curtain was falling off and carpet was stained everywhere. The shower pan was bubbled up and you couldn't even stand flat on the service.

I get having a busy season, but for such a large company the hotel should be properly staffed and trained to clean a hotel room by check in time which is posted on your website at 3 pm. The staff should also be trained to handle a stressful situation's appropriately. Customer service was lacking in all departments. I appreciate the comped room, but we had missed almost an entire concert because of this situation. We had a horrible time in San Antonio because of this hotel and not once did we ever receive an apology for the inconvenience.

I've never written a bad review in my life, but this was by far the worst experience. I work in sales and I'm pretty understanding of situations because I know how customer's are. If the customer service and room was better I probably would have never wrote this. My intention for this is not get anyone in trouble or fired, but to be more aware of how this situation was handled and how to approach it differently in the future if would want repeat customers.

I, ll come back here whenever possible, because we really enjoy our staying, the location was perfect to visit restaurants like Mi Tierra and river walk.

Worst Holiday Inn hotel experience

To begin with, when I first walked in to the lobby there was a very noticeable musty smell. Also, the person who checked us in, was pleasant enough but, seemed very hurried and was not open with the normal pleasantries we usually experience when checking in. He did make sure to inform us about the reward points that we did receive.
When we got to the hallway for our room (we stayed by the Margarita Room) the cigarette smoke smell was horrendous. Fortunately our room did not so we didn't complain and by the next day the overpowering smell was gone, but a lingering smell was always there. The water supply in our bathroom never had plentiful hot water. It was luke warm at best. All 8 pillows were very soft pillows, no firm pillows at all. The wait staff in the restaurant, both at the bar and for both breakfast times we were there, were very nice. HOWEVER, for a hotel that size to only have 1 waffle maker makes no sense. There was always a line of 3-4 people waiting for waffles so you have to wait too long. Also the kitchen staff seemed quite a bit behind as I ate two plates from the buffet before my wife got her burrito. And, the burrito was filled with potatoes along with the potatoes she received on the side. Too much money for a plate of potatoes.

Walking distance to Market square and the Riverwalk. Hotel is very accommodating and has a round trip shuttle to downtown.
