This time the room was as big as a bathroom, could barely move around and smelled horribly of smoke.. I will not come back. I have always had great rooms no problem with smoke I am not sure what happened. Made the same reservations as I always have July 13, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by LOUD!!!!! I had a room that faced the atrium, and you could hear every conversation that took place in the atrium. The noise from the pool was also excedingly loud!!! The pool was open way too late for my comfort - 11:00 pm on a Saturday night. And even then it took complaining to the front desk and waiting another half hour before they enforced it! If a hotel is going to have rooms that overlook the lobby and pool, they should do everything possible to ensure they are as sound-proofed as possible. A sliding glass door that does not close and seal all the way is definitely not enough!!! I will not stay at this hotel again if I have to have a room overlooking the atrium! July 12, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy guests I love this hotel, however the last time I was there a few guests apparently got drunk and started playing pool in the atrium and being very loud till about 11 pm. My room was facing the atrium and this really disturbed my sleep. Next time I'll make sure to get a room facing the outside of the hotel. June 24, 2013

The pork I ordered was raw, my daughter ordered medium rare london broil it was very well done and dry, ordered a child pizza it was about 3 x 3.. The waitress said the london broil was all they had left, and the pork looked done. Needless to say we ended up having to go out. It doesn't have to be fancy just a good meal after a long day. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Everything broken I am a top level Holiday Inn guest. Can't remember if it is Platinum or what but I stay in Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express ALL the time for business. This was the absolute worst I have ever been in. First the room. They put me right next to the elevator equipment room. EVERY time the elevator went up or down, the sounds out of the equipment room was loud. Pumps and hydraulics neve stopped working until after midnight. Internet. What internet. There was no connection on the in room wired circuit, there was no connection on wireless in the room and even my MiFi card couldn't get any signal in the room. Even moved it to the window sill to try and get a signal and nothing. Had to go to the lobby to get any signal to do my work. I didn't need these but the soda machine was Out Of Order. The ATM was Out Of Order. Even the Pac Man game (or whatever it was) in the lobby was Out Of Order. This entire hotel was Out Of Order as far as I was concerned. The plus side, the free breakfast was very good. Guy cooking the omlets was not real friendly but he was a very good cook. I will find a different property next time I am in Alton. By the way, I am in a Holiday Inn Express in Springfield tonight so still sticking with them. This property was a one time bad deal. June 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel but noisy When we first walked into the hotel I commented how nice the hotel appeared and was looking forward to our stay. We were there for our grandson's dental school graduation and his parents had stayed there many times during his 4 years in school. We really enjoyed our stay but for the noise in the wee hours of the night. Our room was on the third floor overlooking the hot tub end of the pool. Around 2 a.m. on Fri evening I suddenly heard a loud finger drumming sound on our wall and then a loud bang on the wall. Then I heard talking for over an hour. The next evening we turned In around 10:30 and heard noise from the pool but that wasn't too bad. Around 2 a.m. we again heard doors slamming in the hallway and someone from another room yelling that he was trying to get some sleep. Around 3 a.m. I heard I heard what sounding like someone talking over a loud speaker and was coming from the first floor area. I could even understand some of what was being said. The food was good and the staff was friendly. If it weren't for the paper thin walls we would have enjoyed our stay. June 8, 2013

It came to my attention that their was a special rate for the event we were attending, but they would not give me that rate. The rate I booked in January was significantly higher than the on-line Best Rate Guarantee rate in June than in January, but they would not give me that rate, either. After we were given our room key, we opened the door to the room and either someone else was already using the room or housekeeping had not done anything. Bed unmade etc. We immediately went back to the desk and told them which was a great surprise. They gave us another room and two free breakfast buffett passes. The breakfast was horrid with powdered eggs, no less. There was a Starbuck's coffee dispenser in the lobby which was out of order with a sign posted that you needed to pay $2.00 at the desk when you served yourself. June 7, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Surprise! Usually stay at another property when in the area but they were booked. And it is good that they were. Enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. Liked the free drinks and breakfast buffet for being a Priority Club member!! Had supper in the Restaurant/Bar and it was very good. Enjoyed Karaoke in the bar Saturday night. Barmaid/waitress was alittle overwhelmed with the small crowd and when the wedding reception wound down and the crowd filtered in it didn't get any better. May 3, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 5 Star Service!! I stayed at this Holiday Inn on business for a few days. The hotel itself is comfortable, and the rooms and amenities are typical for a Holiday Inn. However, the staff provided service at a level of a five star hotel. The staff at the restaurant who served dinner and breakfast were accommodating and wanted to make sure everything was exactly as I'd like. The front desk was helpful and accommodating. Housekeeping arrived just as I was leaving my room to check out, and seeing that I had a lot to carry, offered to help me with my bags. Other support staff inquired as to how they might be helpful. The staff here made my stay so pleasant, that I will want to return here when I come back to Alton. The food was also quite good, and I had good options whether I wanted something healthy or not. This would be a great place to stay, either for business or for pleasure. April 30, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A room next to the exercise room! I was extremely disappointed in my stay. The room was comfortable, but the noise from the "ALL NIGHT" (#115) adjoining exercising room was extremely loud with people talking, the exercising rooms TV playing, and people running on the treadmills at all times of the night. In addition you can clearly hear the slamming of doors and the highway noise all night. I reconized that this could be a problem at check in and asked the desk clerk (Didn't really care) what time the exercise room closed. She told me it didn't "BUT IF IT TOO LOUD" let them know and they will close it!!! I am a PLATINUM MEMBER and stay at Holiday Inns a lot. This is one of the worst. Most Holiday Inns offer an "upgrade" for their Platinum Members. NOT THIS ONE! I asked for an upgrade when checking in and she told me that there was not one. (THE HOTEL WAS NEARLY EMPTY!!) If you stay their, don't let them put you in the "Government Housing" rooms on the first floor, the rooms are noisy (Highway/doors slamming) and aged. I will stay at the hotel next door from now on. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed My wife and I were extremely disappointed in our stay. We planned a get away for the weekend to relax and enjoy a few days away. The room was comfortable, but the noise from adjoining suites were so loud with slamming of doors and children screaming unsupervised. At one point, a small boy was bouncing a ball against our door. About 9pm I brought this to the staff's attention and 11pm, I personally went out to the hallway and sent the children to their rooms. Unbelievable! Although we were on the first floor, there was NO correction of this action. Later on in the evening, there was cigarette smoke barreling into our room giving us headaches. When we gave this to the attention of the staff, they said they definitely smelled it but there was nothing they could do although we asked specifically if they allowed any smoking when we payed for our room (because we have strong reactions to smoke with migraine headaches). They reassured us that there is a NO TOLERANCE policy, but this is definitely not the case. There is great tolerance for smokers. WE NOW NEED TO GET AWAY EVEN MORE! We most assuredly will not be back!! March 16, 2013

Excellent breakfast (with eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, french toast sticks, biscuits and gravy etc.) free for two adults per room. Ping pong and pool table. Indoor pool, whirlpool and sauna. Refrigerator in the room. HBO. Wi-Fi. Computer room downstairs. My compliments to employees Lucas and Ken at the front desk, and Cindy in the breakfast area! The staff has always been very friendly and very accomodating. We feel we are getting a great deal for the money with shuttle service to and from Fast Eddies and breakfast the next morning. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by tempature control I like resting in a cooler room. The A/C was a little hard to work, but over all good. I would suggest on adding on to the hotel. To the back of it I would add a gaming area and new pool. This way members won't be disturb by the noice of kids playing. I say you add a water park like what the Holiday Inn did in Clinton, OK I think. November 15, 2012

When I have visitors come to the Alton area in numbers that cannot be accommodated at the family home, this is only one place I consider to lodge them. The accommodations and staff are excellent.
