Access to the elevators and garage were great. I liked the idea that you have to use your key to access the elevator. That made me feel very secure. March 24, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Some of the nicest Bridgeport has to offer. I am just going to say this once. Bridgeport is the definition of urban blight. And this Holiday Inn is quite literally the nicest part of the downtown area. If you want to save a few bucks by staying further outside of NYC and taking the train which is situated right across the street or the ferry to Long Island which is also nearby, don't say you were never warned. The hotel itself is quite spectacular given what it is up against and the neighbors. A fountain in a sitting area welcomes you, whether you enter from the parking garage behind the building or in the rotating front door. Once you are inside, you forget where you are and could be staying inside a HI in downtown Manhattan for all you know, they do a great job of pretending the building itself is plunked down in the middle of a better area. I was greeted as a Platinum rewards member, was told that I was upgraded to the executive level eight and at the end of the hallway to reduce noise, all a nice touch considering IHG hotels are my stay 95% of the time. We headed up the slightly noisy elevators but first stopping to check out the bar, aptly named Martini and then the pool and fitness area on the second floor (neither were used by us), before heading to the room. At the end of the hall, just as I was promised, a delectable king sized bed awaited us with a solid headboard on the wall behind (pics attached). The room was super clean and everything was uniformly in place. It's the little things sometimes and I was glad to see that they even included mouthwash. The bathroom itself is set back from the room and separated after walking past a nicely sized area for your clothing. The TV is new and offers HD channels, a wide variety at that. The fridge was cold and clean. The desk was nice and big for my laptop and I ended up landlining the high speed internet that was sitting on the desk instead of connecting to wifi so I can't give an update on speeds there. Everything exceeded my expectations about the room. I just wish the $10 parking may have been thrown in as an IHG member. I was here because it was the only IHG property I had access to while visiting nearby family since others were sold out. I'm not in any rush to return and hope Bridgeport can ultimately turn around their economic woes. But if you are in town for whatever reason, know full well that you are good hands both security wise and customer service wise at the hotel, even if driving in can be a bit like being on the set of the Will Smith movie, "I Am Legend". Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Overall experience In general, the experience was good. However, I didn't find it exceptional, particularly with reference to the cost, including the parking situation. Since I had a virus invade my computer while I was there, you can imagine that colored my entire experience. Also, since there was a sign on the interstate indicating the presence of a Holiday Inn, I expected it to be closer to the highway, I was surprised to discover that it was not too near, and that there was no other signage to find the facility. It took me a bit of scouting around to get there. Incidentally, I chose the Holiday Inn because of good experiences in others. February 27, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It took an hour to be served dinner The food was good. But at both dinners the staff seemed confused. One night it took an hour, really, for my dinner to come arrive. A waiter and waitress both kept asking if my food had come out. Looked puzzled and rushed off. We had a conference of over 120 people. When we went to get lunch the staff looked as though we had been dropped from outer space. Totally unprepared and understaffed for people let alone a large number. The second day little better. The last day a Sunday they did no even serve lunch. Might be worth opening for 120 people having a conference in the building. The staff did not give me any information about exercise facility or pool. I had to discover on my own. Many visitors were very confused about free breakfast. At the restaurant the said to ask at the desk. So they had leave the restaurant to ask at the desk. Some of the staff was outstanding, personable and went out of their way to to assist you. Others not as much. I asked to extend my checkout past our 1:00 lunch break. I was told 1:00 was the latest. I rushed up and back to find it coul have been moved to 2:00. Planning for a large conference might be a great idea. It would have been helpful if the staff was more organized. When you check in shouldn't they offer to validate parking, tell you about amenities and make clients feel welcome? The room was clean and many of staff very nice. Overall very discouraging.
