Visiting Crawley – A Guide

For many visitors, Crawley's big selling point is its location, minutes from Gatwick Airport (LGW) and less than an hour from London. It's home to thriving businesses, modern shopping and leisure centres, and natural beauty nearby in the rolling South Downs and the Surrey Hills.

Whether you’re visiting on business or stopping over, there’s plenty to keep you amused.

Crawley: town layout

Crawley's town centre is bounded by Crawley Avenue (A2011) and the M23 motorway. The main shopping area is between Station Way and The Boulevard.

To the east, Three Bridges and Worth are residential districts close to the M23. Manor Royal Business District, between the town and Gatwick Airport, is home to more than 300 businesses, including Virgin Atlantic.

West of the centre in Goff's Park you'll find Crawley Museum, woodland and a miniature railway.

The concierge recommends…

  • A round of golf at Tilgate Forest Golf Centre, which has a nine-hole par-three course and an 18-hole course in pretty wooded countryside.
  • A free guided tour of Wakehurst Place, a grand Elizabethan mansion surrounded by formal gardens.
  • A trip to 13th-century Hever Castle, once home to Anne Boleyn, one of the less fortunate of Henry VIII’s six wives.

Hotels in Crawley

Most hotels in Crawley are close to the two main highways that loop round the town centre, the A2011 and the M23 motorway. Travellers seeking easy access to Gatwick Airport and the Manor Royal Business District often stay here, on the outskirts of town.

Three Bridges and Worth are peaceful residential districts. Close to the M23, they also have fast links to Gatwick, via Three Bridges train station.

If catching that early flight is paramount, you can stay right beside the airport. You’ll still have easy access to the restaurants and entertainment in the town centre.

Eating Out in Crawley

International eateries and cosy pubs dominate Crawley's dining scene. You'll find Italian, Mexican, Indian, Chinese and Thai restaurants in the town centre. Takeaway joints offer kebabs, pizza and fish and chips.

At The Hawth theatre, you can enjoy a pre-show dinner at Café Viva and an interval drink at one of two bars.

The chef recommends…

Shopping in Crawley

Crawley's main shopping area is close to the station, between Station Way and The Boulevard. You'll find more than 90 shops, including Debenhams, Boots, Primark, Body Shop and Monsoon, at County Mall Shopping Centre on Station Way. You can pick up fresh local produce at the open-air market in Queens Square, held every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Antique hunters can rummage for bargains in the traffic-free Lanes in buzzy Brighton, only 30 minutes away by train.

Returning customer Holiday Inn Victoria
By Pusheen
We have stayed at this hotel before. We returned to the Holiday Inn Victoria because the staff are very nice and helpful. The hotel is perfectly situated just a pleasant 5 minute stroll from the [More] underground station. Bed and Breakfast experience is very well organised and delivered by very helpful and happy staff members from front of house to lounge staff. Although I have given a slightly lower score for comfort this time because the pull out bed and pillows seemed incredibly hard, I understand that this is a personal choice and lots of you may love a firmer bed/pillow! Thanks for another great stay, we'll be back! [Less]

Welcoming staff, helpful in every way. Rooms are somewhat small but typical for central London. Well maintained facility and very clean. The buffet breakfast could use an upgrade. [Less]

Comfortable bed and good service
By Ricsemana
On arrival, as IHG members we were immediately offered a complimentary upgrade to an executive suite, with a good view over the Thames. The dinner in the evening was very good, and the bar service [More] afterward was friendly, albeit pricey. All in all, it was a very relaxing evening. [Less]

Nice and clean room - Friendly staff
By Phil - NYC
As usual I got a good experience at this location. Of course the breakfast is not not great but that's not the main point. My room was nice and clean. Unfortunately the bathroom got a vague sewer [More] smell. Not sure where this was coming from since everything was working fine. Anyway, I recommend this place due to past experience. [Less]

Stayed two nights as part of leisure break. Clean and comfortable room especially comfortable bed. Adequate breakfast. Nice welcome from staff. [Less]
Great stay and close to the underground
By DanielUK
Excellent stay, my only complaint was that there was no iron in the room however that was probably my fault as I didn't read all of the amenities. The staff said they would get one if required for me [More] to use. The rooms are small, no closet or drawers to speak of so since I was there for a week and on business I had a lot of suits etc. that were difficult to keep neat and hung/folded. Bathrooms are small and there is no tub the shower is a single but not sure if that is in all rooms? Breakfast is good with enough choice, however it is exactly the same every days. It is always replaced and they have staff constantly cleaning and refilling etc. Earl's Courts is a nice area which is not too far from the action of central London. Close to 2 underground stops on the District Line with easy transfers to other lines. Planning to go to UK again within the year and I will most likely be staying here again as the value for what you get is great here. [Less]
