Legoland Windsor originally opened in 1996 to great acclaim, and has since grown to become the second-most popular theme park in the entire UK, with millions of satisfied customers every single year. In the 20 years since its initial opening, the park has undergone countless improvements, additions, and renovations, and has become a sprawling venue filled with days of excitement.
In fact, the park has become so popular that it was voted UK's Number One Family Attraction by Group Leisure Magazine in 1999.
A Day at the Park
Many people may wonder what a Lego-themed amusement park could offer. After all, aren't blocks a nice quiet activity to enjoy at home? Nothing could be further from the truth.
To make Lego exciting, Legoland Windsor has 11 themed lands offering a number of exciting amusement park attractions. You can raid an Egyptian tomb on the Laser Raiders ride in The Kingdom of the Pharaohs land, bear witness to daring pirate escapades during the Pirates of Skeleton Bay stunt show in LEGO City, or ride The Dragon roller coaster at 30 mph through a perilous castle. You can also sit back and cool off on the wet and wild Viking River Splash.
But the most popular ride at the park is the Atlantis Submarine Voyage by Sealife, which allows you to explore the dark depths in LEGO style.
And, of course, children young and old can take the opportunity to see and build impressively detailed Lego-created structures in person, and visit with the Lego characters throughout the park. There’s even a miniature version of the park itself, called Mini-land.
Getting to the Park
The park is located just two miles from Windsor town centre and has plenty of on-site parking available for those who travel by car. Traveling by train is an easy alternative as well, since there is shuttle service available from all nearby train stops. Finally, those from out of town may prefer to stay at a nearby hotel. Shuttle services from door-to-gate are often available for these visitors.
